NIE Number (Foreigner's Identification Number)

The NIE is a Foreigner’s Identification Number and is the first document you should apply for, if you want to buy a property or a vehicle, receive medical assistance from the Spanish Social Security, ask for a bank loan, take out an insurance policy, work in Spain or make a tax declaration.

You apply for your NIE number at the National Police Station in Torre del Mar, Avda. Andalucia 3. Monday to Friday: 9:00 to 14:00.

Documents to present:

  • Application form (original and photocopy). This form is also available at Nerja Foreigners Department.
  • Bank payment slip of approx. 16 €. This form is available at the Torre del Mar Police Station.
  • Passport (original and photocopy).

After several days you should return to collect your NIE number at the Police Station in Torre del Mar. The NIE number will always be the same and does not need renewal.
